They describe themselves as Real, Raw Rockabilly and the Groove Diggers certainly deliver on all three counts.

A four piece from the UK they bring a genuine authentic feel with the album recording on vintage equipment. This gives a honesty to the feel of things sometimes the vocals are lost a bit in the background and you can imagine a 50’s studio in someone’s garage.

The tracks rattle along with rhythm guitar underpinning the fine lead and steady clacking of the bass, drums have the DJ Fontana feel and so act to underscore rather than dominate the light touch of the band.

All the songs a pretty strong but to pick out a few highlights Piece of Jewellery has a great rhythm and clever lyric, Open House is a Saturday night party reminiscent of your Summertime Blues, whereas The Prowler stalks along with a surf style and Don’t Ya Break My Heart could have come from the King studio circa ’56.

At 14 tracks (plus a hidden gem) the album is a great listen if your passion is the real sound of your Charlie Feathers, Benny Joy, Mac Curtis era of the scene then this band could be for you.
