Tour "Ricky Nelson Remembered" by his twin sons

17 January 2012
Twin sons of Ricky Nelson, Matthew and Gunnar, are on a dedication tour called "Ricky Nelson Remembered," which will be at the Reif Center on Friday, Jan. 20.

Coming from such a famous family, Matthew and Gunnar wanted a name for themselves. Incidentally, they succeeded, and in 1990 after their song "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection" hit number one in the US, the Nelson family became listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family in history to have three successive generations to have records that reach number one status.

Matthew and Gunnar are still working around the clock doing what they love. Aside from their band, Nelson, they are each involved with numerous side projects that range from modern and classic rock to country music.

"But the thing that's the coolest about our lives is Ricky Nelson Remembered because it's kind of our Alpha and our Omega. You know, it's kind of where we begin and end," said Matthew Nelson in an interview with the Herald-Review. "Our dad was our best friend. He was a great guy. Everything that he did musically and personally really is the true line in what Gunnar and I have always done as human beings and musicians."

This tour began more than a year and a half ago in 2010 for the 25th anniversary of Ricky Nelson's death. The success of the tour has led the brothers to continue the show for as long as it has gone to date. They are also looking at the possibility of having this show at their own regular venue in Las Vegas.

Besides performing a wide range of Ricky Nelson's best-known and most-loved songs like "Hello Mary Lou" and "Garden Party," Matthew and Gunnar also share stories about their father, as well as video from "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" and other never-before-seen family footage.
