I've seen this great band on stage for a few times and always it makes my feet move and socks roll. Please, let me introduce you to The BopCats, rockabilly of a high quality already for 30 years! Answers in Finnish and in English.
Rockabilly Bash: First of all, please, tell me, who you are and where are you from?
BC: We are The BopCats from Finland, more precisely from the Hyvinkää-Mäntsälä area. The bass player is originally from a town called Turku.
RB: When the band was founded and are there other bands in your history?
BC: We started with this name in 1979. Before The BopCats some of the band members played in another band called Larry and The Rockers. The drummer has been playing with the Fuckin' Hippies, and the bass player Don Carlos has played in Rock-Ola`s band and The Jokers. So this year we celebrate our 30th anniversary.
RB: Who are your inspirers?
BC: In short all the SUN-artists, Gene Vincent, Johnny Burnette as well as great instrumental music, for example the Ventures.
RB: Do you write music yourself and if so, when and how?
BC: Our guitar player Utsi composes the music and other guitarist Mico writes the lyrics if needed. At the moment Mico is living in Canada and hence he is not seen on stage with The BopCats very often, he still works in the background.
RB: I know you are in Finland a quite popular band. Tell me about your most exotic performing experiences?
BC: We have had gigs only in Finland and Sweden, so the most exotic location must be Sweden then! We will be happy accepting invitations to more exotic locations, too!
RB: Do you have a lot of gigs and do you like to tour?
BC: We have only 1 to 2 gigs a month, and that is about as many as we are capable of, since we all have our day jobs and families to take care of. The gigs, however, are the icing on the cake and give us the spark to keep rocking!
RB: Please, tell about your recordings.
BC: In 2007 we published on the CD and vinyl a collection of old recordings and tapes from 1980-1984 called Original, and in 1983 we got out 4 songs on the EP. In 2008 was published the CD Jump Higher, on which all the material is brand new and self-made. In March 2009 we will get out an all-instrumental CD called The BopCats with Friends/String-Go!
RB: Do you have also some fan stuff on sale? If you do, do you decide together, what to sell for your devotees?
BC: We do have T-shirts with the logo as well as stickers for sale, and of course our own CDs. They are available on our gigs, so come and get yours! Click on http://kuvablogi.com/blog/12035/1/ to take a closer look at the fan products.
RB: Your regards to readers of this website?
BC: Rock'n'Roll has no limits, it fits all shapes and sizes and especially AGES!
